Water Education Project

Water Education, KentThe Water Education Project is funded by 4 Delivery, Southern Water and United Utilities (through the United Futures partnership). It has been formed to help alleviate the disruption caused by some major infrastructure improvement works in the South East.

Working in Schools, Groundwork has devised a number of sessions that bring to life the water cycle, waste water collection and treatment, water supplies and treatments, water conservation and water efficiency. The sessions are delivered directly to schools and each school is also provided with a water efficient garden (including a water butt and interpretation board).

Water Education, KentThe Project has been designed in a modular format so different elements can be delivered in different areas. For instance, in Kent where Southern Water supply drinking water, water resources are a precious commodity (especially with all the new planned housing and business developments in the Thames Gateway) so water conservation and the efficient use of water are the key messages in sessions delivered to schools. However, in Portsmouth, where Southern Water only collect waste water the issues are around antiquated drains and fat build-ups, the key messages are around responsible waste.

This project has been very well received by partners, funders and beneficiaries alike so we intend to build upon this success and roll it out to schools across the South East.
