Sustainable Greenspaces
Groundwork is synonymous with undertaking practical landscape improvement and management on a significant scale, typically creating new public assets in a regeneration context out of degraded or under utilised land with the full involvement of local people. It continues to contribute to initiatives of region-wide relevance such as the Green Grid in Thames Gateway, and collaborating with Countryside Agency about the role of the urban fringe in pursuit of sustainable development.
This programme is about working with Trusts and other partners to develop and apply more radical approaches to the long-term stewardship of greenspace, including opportunities emerging through the planning and development process (relevance to new communities Agenda), green bond schemes, and site based income generating opportunities and endowments. The programme is also about ensuring that the region benefits fully from the new Groundwork-led lottery programmes.
