Groundwork Trusts in the SE Region
Groundwork is best known for its network of local Trusts, delivering projects ‘on the ground’ and working with local communities and businesses. The South East Region has 4 local Trusts at present, who have all grown out of locally identified needs. Each Groundwork Trust is an independent legal entity in its own right, consisting of a partnership of the public, private and voluntary sectors - with its own board of trustees.
Groundwork is able to operate in a number of different ways. Groundwork is often a delivery partner, but can also help with identifying and developing projects. Most of Groundwork’s activity comes under its Charitable remit, however, commercial work is undertaken by Trading Arms.
Each Groundwork Trust develops teams to address specific local priorities. Responding to local need is the basis of our philosophy. Most Trusts, however, offer a number of core skills.
- Project managers - overseeing the delivery of activities from creating community gardens and play facilities to school grounds improvements or business support and training.
- Community development staff - working with local people, consulting, supporting and building capacity so that residents are able to develop their own ideas and play an active role in maintenance and further development.
- Education officers - supporting teachers with practical workshops, training, school grounds developments and school business links.
- Landscape architects - translating local ideas into practical schemes that meet community needs, engaging specialist contractors and managing contracts through to completion.
- Youth workers – involving young people in practical regeneration activities as a way of developing their confidence and skills and helping them realise their potential as positive agents of change.
- Environmental managers - providing advice on Health & Safety, home and business waste minimisation, energy saving and pollution.
