Communities

Community football

We make a long-term commitment to supporting neighbourhoods viewed as disadvantaged and work closely alongside other organisations and existing initiatives to help improve the quality of life for people living there. We provide training and support to help people get more involved in making decisions about where they live and to understand the benefits that sustainable development can bring. We help people improve the appearance of their streets, parks and housing estates but also encourage them to lead more active lifestyles, get to know other people in their area or work with their neighbours to reduce anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime.

Working with Communities in the South East - Case Study

Lismore Park, Slough

Slough’s Lismore Park co-ordination project is funded by Nai Roshni Partnership as part of the borough’s regeneration scheme. The aim of project is to engage and consult the local community to develop ideas to improve the facilities for young people and the wider community.

Groundwork Thames Valley has been working in partnership with a wide range of local agencies and the residents of Lismore Park to develop and increase the sense of community pride and spirit.

The work will benefit all members of the community, however there is a particular emphasis on the parents and young people of the estate.

  • £40,000 raised towards park improvements

Next stage

  • Fundraising a further £160,000
  • facilitating resident focus groups to develop ideas and take decisions for improvements to the park
