Welcome to Groundwork South East
Groundwork is a national federation of local charitable companies, and in the South East we are working with partners to improve the quality of the local environment, the lives of local people and the profitability of local business. This means making better use of regional resources such as land, energy and water.
The outcomes from our work are not just better places to live and work, though this is fundamentally important, but also to contribute to community and economic development of a local area. For example, there is a strong emphasis on developing the skills of the whole community, particularly those out of work, those in local employment and business, and children and young people, with whom the region’s future prosperity lies.
Trusts are located in areas of the South East where achieving sustainable development and tackling social exclusion need to go hand in hand:
Groundwork Kent and Medway: Groundwork has been working in North Kent since 1990 and extended its area of operation to the whole of Kent in April 2007 when the two existing trusts covering the Kent Thames-side and Medway Swale areas merged. Whilst the Trust will continue to focus on the Thames Gateway, an increasing the amount of its work will be throughout the county.
Groundwork Solent: is working with coastal communities, public sector and local businesses in a priority economic development area for the region.
Groundwork Thames Valley: is a key partner in an area, which despite being economically successful, still contains significant pockets of deprivation, together with considerable pressures on land and transport infrastructure.
There are also studies underway to explore opportunities for wider coverage across the South-East, that will link in with the activities of local delivery partners in the community and voluntary sector.
The South East Regional Team provides support to the local
Groundwork Trusts, contributes to regional strategy, and develops
regional partnerships and programmes of work.
